Logging in

The school administrator is the user who controls the GCSE Science software and sets up, amends or deletes users from the system. An administrator user is created by Harcourt when a new subscription is taken out. If the school does not yet have a subscription this must be taken out before any administrators can access the system.

To access the GCSE Science software, open your web browser and enter the site address, as displayed in the Login Confirmation Email, in the address bar. The initial log-in screen has input boxes for you to log in with your username and password, an interactive tour of the software, a planning document and any other Harcourt information relating to the scheme.

Users and subscriptions

There are three main types of users in the system:

• Administrator users
  Administrators have access to the system to manage all other types of users. An administrator login will be created for your school by Harcourt when you subscribe. This login will be used to create and administer all other users for your school.
• Teacher users
  Teacher users have access to the system to use all of the presentation, planning and teacher resource assets. Teachers can additionally create their own lessons from the assets in the system.
• Student users
  Student users have the least access to the system. They can access the presentations and some of the resource sheets (e.g. homework sheets, student activity sheets and self-assessment sheets) in the same way as teachers but they cannot access planning materials (e.g. item plans and answer sheets) and they cannot create custom presentations.
